NITROSAMINE IN BARLEY MALT

Following the recent RASFF (Rapid alert system for Food) annoucement that some Nitrosamine has been found in German barley malt EDME have the following statement to make.

Statement concerning Nitrosamines (NDMA) in malt products

There are currently no legal limits set for the contaminant NDMA in food products. However, by agreement between UK malt suppliers and their customers, NDMA contamination is limited to 5ppb and routinely monitored for due diligence purposes.

Reports provided to Edme Ltd as part of our supplier quality assurance procedure, show that NDMA levels are consistently well below 5ppb.

We are therefore confident that our products do not contain excessive levels of this compound.
