A Factory fit for the future
2009/2010 saw £1 million capital expenditure on site improvements. All improvements are designed to make sure that our site adheres to all the requirements of our EFSIS certification which is vital in convincing our customers that EDME is fit to produce and supply their ingredients. Welfare Facilities
Each department now has integrated individual welfare facilities, including fully equipped kitchen facilities, changing and washroom facilities. This limits the operative’s exposure to external atmospheric pollutants once they have entered the productions areas and drastically improves our site hygiene standards. CCTV is installed at all hand wash stations to monitor compliance with EDME’s hygiene regulations by everyone entering production areas
Security & Safety
A complete upgrade across site with the installation of a selective entry system enabling only authorised personel to enter the production areas at any time and reducing the risk of sabotage and contamination from unknown sources. Safety barriers have been installed at all loading points to ensure the safety of operatives during movement of products across site.
Additional storage
A warehouse extension, refurbishment of “the blackhole” (the old syrups plant) and the installation of a lift system in the Mill to allow access to the higher floors, added an additional 500 pallet spaces across the site. This allows an increase in production of finished goods which can be stored in the additional area’s prior to dispatch.
Dust Extraction
Dust extraction equipment has been installed at all bagging and tipping points across the site to maintain, as best as possible, a dust free environment for the operatives. Dust extraction and external Airmaster systems have been installed in the Flake lines, not only to reduce the amount of atmospheric dust, but also to moderate the temperature of the department which is affected by the very high heat levels created by the four large gas cookers.
New laboratories
An additional, fully equipped, laboratory was installed in the flaking line to enable the testing of the flakes as they are produced to ensure colour, size and texture meets our product specifications.
